How it works

What actually happens between your photo and your payout.

Studio is a storefront for your prints where you never touch a printer, a shipping label, or a sales-tax form. Here is the mechanical version — each step, who does what, and exactly where the money goes on a sale.

01

You set up a storefront

A handle, a display name, a short bio and an avatar. That’s the whole setup — your storefront is a public page laid out like a profile grid, because buyers already know how to browse one. No buyer account is needed to look at it or to order from it.

The storefront runs on a subscription of $4.99 a month, with the first month free. You can cancel it whenever you like.

02

You upload work, and we check it can print

Add up to 12 live prints at a time. As each one goes up we measure it against the shapes we actually print and against the size you want to sell it at, so a file that can’t hold up at 40″ is caught before a buyer ever sees it offered that big — not after they’ve paid for it.

If a photo isn’t one of our standard shapes you crop it here, in the browser. Nothing sends you to another tool and nothing is silently trimmed on your behalf.

03

You price it — and see what you earn as you type

You set the retail price for every surface and size. Underneath each one sits a wholesale floor we set, which already covers printing the piece and shipping it to your buyer. Anything you price above that floor is yours.

The one rule

Your payout can never go below zero— that’s enforced in the database itself, not just in the form, so no bug or bad request can produce a sale that costs you money. Beyond that, the pricing is genuinely yours: if you price at the floor, the dashboard will tell you plainly that you earn $0.00on that sale. We’d rather say so than quietly move your price for you.

Where the money goes on a sale

  • The wholesale amount covers making the print and shipping it. That’s CanvasFab’s side.
  • A 5% platform fee on the retail price. Most of it is the card-processing cost — roughly 2.9% + 30¢ — and the remainder runs the platform. There are no listing fees and nothing else is deducted.
  • The rest is your payout, and it goes to your own Stripe account automatically when the order is paid. Nobody has to remember to send it.
04

A buyer orders, and we take it from there

Checkout, payment, fraud, refunds and sales tax all run through Studio as the merchant of record. Your buyer checks out as a guest, and shipping is free right now— we’re covering it, so there’s no shipping line at their checkout.

The order lands in our Miami studio, gets printed and hand-finished, and ships in about 5–7 business days with tracking. If something arrives damaged, the buyer reports it to us and we replace it — a buyer problem is our problem, not a message you have to answer on a weekend.

The split happens at order time, not at the end of a month. There is no invoice to raise, no payout run to wait for, and nothing manual between a sale and your money.

Printed in Miami since 2014. A real person answers — by email, text, or the chat box in the corner.
